Prairie Rattler Winery and Vineyard is located 1 mile west of Shidler, Oklahoma on State Highway 11 or it is about 24 miles east of Ponca City on the north side of the highway. This is a family owned and operated winery by the Paula Hammer family, that specializes in producing handcrated wines and country wines.

The store is open and the people are available for tasting of the wines Wednesday-Saturday from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, or you can call for an appointment.

The grounds are well kept and have a lot of trellises with grapes on them, and they have a gift shop at the location where they will gladly make up a 'Wine Basket' which can contain a bottle of wine of your choice, two wine glasses and a candle. They have a multitude of items for sale in the store, including 'Prairie Rattler Wine Glasses', cork screws, and homade soaps and candles.

The vinyard produces Cayuga and Cynthiana grapes

The 'Cayuga' grape is a white grape that makes a soft, lightly fruity, crisp semi-dry wine that is highly palatable to most white wine connoisseurs.

'Cynthiana' grapes produce a rich, full-bodied red wine with a dry character similar in style to Cabernet Sauvignon but with more spice. Wine from these grapes has been called 'The Cabernet of the Ozarks'.

We are lucky to have a vinyard in the area with nice local people operating the business. In these days of such mass production of goods, to be able to find wines that are given the care, love and patience to create something good for us to enjoy is truly a treat.

And the labels on their wines are wonderful scenes from all over the local area. You must try some of their wines, they are quite amazing!
